In December 2025, SySS GmbH examined Password Depot 19.0.0 in a penetration test spanning ten person-days. The review covered, among other things, cryptography, man-in-the-middle scenarios, and brute-force scenarios. Result according to the report: No critical security vulnerabilities found.

Strong encryption
Password Depot encrypts your data with AES-256. New databases use the authenticated AES-GCM mode, which makes tampering with the encrypted data detectable. Multi-layered protection mechanisms make unauthorised access to stored credentials more difficult.

Additional protection when unlocking
You open your database with a master password and can optionally secure access further with a key file. This significantly increases protection against unauthorized opening.

The password generator creates strong, random passwords. Instead of simple passwords like "Mausi," you use complex character strings that are much harder to guess or attack offline.

As a new user, you start in beginner mode; as an experienced user, in expert mode - or in a custom-defined mode.
